Upcoming Canadian cable drama The Line (aka The Weight) will have its Mipcom debut next month, courtesy of Toronto–based distributor Peace Arch Entertainment.
The company has acquired all distribution rights worldwide (excluding most of Africa, France and European French–language territories) to the 15x60' cop show, currently in post–production.
Produced by Toronto–based Nightingale Company, it was written by George F Walker (This Is Wonderland) and Dani Romain (Niagara Motel). Eleven episodes have been directed by Gail Harvey (Some Things That Stay) and four were directed by Shawn Alex Thompson (Murdoch Mysteries).
The series stars Sharon Lawrence (Desperate Housewives), Linda Hamilton (The Terminator), Edward Asner (Studio 60 on The Sunset Strip), Ron White (Screamers), Daniel Kash (Aliens) and Clé Bennett (Guns).
It follows "the personal lives of unethical cops and uncommon criminals, interwoven as they all struggle with the line between good and evil," said the producers.
It will premiere as The Weight in spring 2009 on the Canadian pay television networks Movie Central (Western Canada) and The Movie Network (Eastern Canada). Canadian English–language rights revert to Peace Arch following the pay TV windows.
