BANFF NEWS: Canuck pay networks Movie Central and The Movie Network are pushing their commitment to home-grown production, announcing work is underway on two new original drama series, with a third getting a second season.
In production by Vancouver-based Stage 3 Media and distributed by Tricon Films & Television, Sanctuary (13x60') is being shot almost entirely on green screen.
Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures is an eight-part drama series based on the Scotiabank Giller Award-winning bestseller by Canadian author Vincent Lam. It will begin production in Toronto in spring 2009 and will debut on The Movie Network and Movie Central in fall 2009.
Meanwhile, the second season of The Weight is set to begin shooting in Toronto in July, with seasons one and two premiering consecutively on Movie Central and The Movie Network in spring 2009.
Produced by The Nightingale Company, the series is created by playwright/screenwriter George F Walker (This Is Wonderland, Criminals in Love) and Dani Romain (This Is Wonderland). It tells the story of Max and Donny, two cops who are often as morally ambiguous as the criminals they pursue.
